Massimo Comuzzi - Harnessing Intuition
Exploring an Unconstrained Expression
Massimo is an Intuitive Artist by passion, and an Imagination Coach by vocation.
Originally from the Venice area, Italy, after living between Europe and South-East Asia, Massimo is now based in London, a unique backdrop to express his multifaceted life experience through a culture of acceptance, creativity, and fun.
At the centre of self-realisation, Massimo places imagination, the creative energy that through its artistic expression opens the heart to hidden possibilities, and is a core principle to coach people to find their inner artist.
Massimo works fast, driven by intuition. An self-taught artist, he believes every mark on the paper is an expression of the soul, and so it is perfect as is. It is about finding flow by loosing control and taking risks, embracing unpredictability with speed. Massimo works are based on a daring use of charcoal in life drawings sessions, and on the fluidity of watercolour abstractions.
Can you tell us a little bit about your background and your journey to art?
I was born in the Venice area, with the rich tapestry of art and culture that defines Italy. I loved my education in classical humanities, however, my inner artist was blocked early on by negative feedback from my art teachers. I channelled that repressed creativity into a pioneering IT career. Entirely self-taught, I defied the conventional boundaries between the arts and technology, merging my understanding of humanity with cutting-edge IT solutions and leading with empathy large teams around the globe.
And my inner artist lived on feeding on my passion for photography. For me it's a state of creative flow, fully absorbed in the moment, framing the experience, and then having an opportunity to connect with others.
And then came another shift. The deep human experience gained from the cross-cultural work, triggered my inner call to move away from corporates to life coaching. It turned out to be a way of life for me, that helped me fully rediscover my inner creativity and flourish as an intuitive artist in parallel, working with charcoal in life drawing sessions and watercolours abstracts in my studio. It feels like the first 50 years of life have been about search, now it all erupts into creativity and art.
As well as being an artist you also work as a coach. Can you tell us about it, and does it influence your art in any way?
Today I blend all my life experiences into my Imagination Coaching, including techniques like visualizations, drawing, collage, poetry, storytelling, improvisation, and embodiment. People coming to my sessions say it's a soul-opening experience, allowing them to dive into a state of flow to feel liberated, confident, playful, and in harmony.
It's a powerful two-way relationship that deeply influences my art, adding a layer of emotional depth to the abstract beauty of my drawings. My watercolours are inspired by the emotional and spiritual narratives shared by the participants in my working groups, capturing the essence of our collective human experiences—hope, resilience, curiosity, joy.
Being a coach and a facilitator also taught me to be brave and openly share my emotions. I enjoy meeting people and their energies where they are and communicate my art, telling stories of my practice, the techniques, and the connection to source, to being able to stay in a relationship with the viewer. It's about walking the coaching talk, to inspire the viewers to express their creativity without barriers or editing.
Can you talk us through your process from conception to final piece?
The intuitive drawing artistic process involves creating art without preconceived ideas and planning.
I begin by relaxing my mind and body in a quiet workspace. Without a specific subject in mind, I make the first mark on paper. This initial mark sets the tone and direction for the rest of the drawing. As I continue, I let the drawing evolve naturally, responding to shapes, lines, and colours as they emerge, allowing my intuition to guide the composition. The drawing reaches completion when I feel the energy draining away, each drawing is done in a single session without subsequent retouches. It's about surrendering to the outcome without judgment and accepting the artwork as it comes from my soul.
You work in series can you tell us about Earth Dialogues, Lyrical Females and Alchemy?
Earth Dialogue is a vivid exploration of the natural world, viewed not just as a backdrop but as an active participant in the creative process. By treating nature as a thinking partner, I tap into its rhythms, patterns, and energies, allowing these elements to inform and shape my artistic expression. My pieces are meditative dialogues that reflect the intricate balance and beauty of nature’s wisdom, inspired by my group coaching outdoor sessions in nature.
Lyrical Females is a celebration of the beauty and resilience of the female form. Each piece is a tribute to the inner strength and unique stories of the models I work with, rendered with fluidity and lyricism that evoke the paradox of vulnerability and power. My life drawings celebrate those lyrical moments, capturing the essence of the female body with sensitivity and profound appreciation. This work is highly challenging and completed in a very short amount of time in crowded sessions.
Alchemy is an exploration of the alchemical principle of "Don't repress, don't act out", a guiding force in the creative process. In the heat of the heart, where the melting of the deepest emotions happens, the impossible rule is to stay in the furnace of feelings. Contained but free to imagine and transform the energy for a new level of consciousness.
What does success as an artist mean to you?
Success for me, as both a life coach and an intuitive artist, means creating a lasting impact on the lives of others through my dual pursuits. As a coach, I am fulfilled when I see my clients navigating life’s complexities with clarity and courage. As an intuitive artist, success is reflected in my ability to convey deep emotional and spiritual emotions through my drawings.
Ultimately, success is about harmonizing these two passions—life coaching and intuitive art—into a cohesive journey that enriches my life and those I connect to.
